Continuing with the team review…………
Aston Villa
Strength : Well organized team and especially gear towards defending with a well settle backline of Given, Dunne, Collins, Warnock and Hutton/Luke Young. Play well on the counter with the pace of Gabby and N’zogbia.
Weakness : A rather one-dimensional team playing on a basis of a reliable backline and off the pace of Gabby and N’zogbia. A lack of idea in breaking down teams that are as well organized. We can see in the possession that Villa allow their opposition team to have. We can see that in the number of draws that they had even though they are still unbeaten in the league. A strong first team but lacking cover in attack especially there’s no notable replacement for Bent and Gabby if both are injured. If you have notice, both players account for 6 of the total 9 goals score and are also responsible for 50% of the assists.
Key Players : Bent, Agbonlahor, Collins, Dunne, Petrov, Given
Conclusion : A balance and strong first team but lacking flair which is typical of Mcleish team. Will do wells against team with defense lacking in pace and a weak attack. But the goals they score are just no sufficient to kill off team during dominant period of the game. Thereby allow teams to mount a comeback as in games against Newcastle and QPR. Also the tendency to concede majority of the possession to the opposition is a magnet to invite attacks. I sincerely believe they will suffer against teams that excel in possession and with flair in their team.
BlackBurn
Strength : I can’t make out any positive point to note within the team with the exception of Hoilett. Who has distinguished himself to be a fast, tricky, creativity and tough. (Stretcher off on Fulham match but still able to play in next weekend match.) Yes, they are unlucky at times especially against Everton but as a home team the possession they concede is just too much (Up to 61%) and this happen on a regular basis.
Weakness : Except for a reasonable attack, the midfield is too weak (conceding too much possession) and a weak defense that’s leak just too much goals. Frankly, beating Arsenal was just a fluke with Arsenal shooting themselves in the foot. But the biggest weakness got to be Steve Kean as the team is playing without any direction and shape. Most of the time playing counter attack football so as to exploit Hoilett pace and that’s about all. At least Big Sam has them playing percentage football as a team.
Key Players : Hoilett, Samba, N’zonzi
Conclusion : The team looks okay on paper and with a couple of quality additions they could easily move up to mid table. However Steve Kean needs to get Rover to play as a team else they could be easily relegated at the end of season. But to me Steve is out of depth for the EPL and since last season Rover is already on a decline. At 1 stage last season, there’s a winless run of 10 games. Only at the last 4 games, did Rover play to their potential and get themselve out of trouble. (More like playing to save their reputation). Hence I will goes against Blackburn most of the time till Kean is replace.
